We’ve all admired a professional lawn, a perfectly manicured baseball field with its deep green, perfectly striped grass. How can you get your lawn to look as good as a major league field? You don’t need to be a professional groundskeeper to have a ‘field of dreams’ in your own yard. Here are 5 steps to help you have the best looking lawn in your neighborhood.
WATERING
How much do you need be watering every week?
Grass typically needs an inch of water weekly for it to soak in and be absorbed. You don’t want to over-water, or have the lawn get waterlogged; so if you see water run-off, turn off the water. You need to know the season as well. Winter watering for your yard is different than the hot summers. For optimum absorption and growth, it’s best to water in the early morning. This also helps to reduce the risk of mold or yard mildew.
FERTILIZER
How much do you need to fertilize?
Fertilizing is an important step in keeping your lawn healthy. It’s important to get the right balance of fertilizer, and to apply it at the right time. Too much fertilizer can burn your lawn, and too little can allow weeds to grow. The specialists at Problem Solved Pest Control will determine which nutrients your lawn needs, and set up the best fertilizer and treatment plan for your yard. Take advantage of our 30+ years of local experience.
AERATING
Don’t forget to aerate. Aerating breaks up the thatch in your lawn, which allows water, oxygen and fertilizer to get to the roots. This helps your lawn to grow stronger and healthier. You probably do not want to do this on your own so give us a call. We can let you know if your yard is in need, and if so, we can get the right professional for you.
KEEP WEEDS OFF THE FIELD
A healthy lawn is the best defense against weeds. The stronger your grass is, the less chance weeds will have to survive. We can help you implement a weed control plan that will keep your lawn weed free. The lawn weed control programs that Problem Solved Pest Control sets up are designed to work with the unique seasons here in Southwest Florida.
GET OUT THE MOWER FOR THOSE BALLPARK STRIPES
No ballpark would be complete without the stripes. How do you get those stripes in your own lawn? You can choose which pattern you want to create, either stripes, checkerboard squares, or diagonal stripes:
- STRIPES: To attain the striped look, start by mowing around the perimeter of your lawn, then mow in alternating directions to create the stripes. Finish by mowing around the perimeter again.
- CHECKERBOARD: For the checkerboard, follow the basic stripe process, then, mow in the opposite direction, across the stripes. This will create crisscross stripes and a checkerboard pattern.
- DIAGONAL: You can create the diagonal pattern by mowing a checkerboard pattern in diagonal directions.
To keep your lawn healthy; change your mowing direction every 3 weeks; this will keep the grass from bending in the same direction. Not wanting to mow your yard yourself, then give us a call. While we don’t mow yards we do have lots of relationships with companies that are already working in your neighborhood.
These steps will keep your lawn lush and healthy, so it can be enjoyed for many seasons by your home team!
