Palm Tree Envy
A Palm tree is a staple in our Florida landscapes. For our shrub customers, we put a lot of effort into getting and keeping your palm trees healthy. Our current application is vital for maintaining strong healthy palms. We fertilize our palms 3 times per year and have some of the best looking palms around.
When it comes to feeding palm trees, not any old fertilizer will do. The right ingredients make all the difference and here’s the secret on the ingredients we look for.
When selecting a fertilizer for a palm tree, there are 4 important ingredients to look for.
Potassium is a major ingredient for palms. It helps keep the green color in the leaves of trees. It is stored in the lowest fronds of the tree.
Boron is the minor element that helps development in the fronds. Boron deficiencies are noticed when fronds do not fully open or twist.
Magnesium is a minor element that helps a palm tree maintain a uniform green color throughout the entire canopy. When magnesium deficiencies develop, the lower fronds turn yellow.
Manganese is the minor element that helps palm trees fight off disease and feeds the newest growth. When manganese is lacking in a palm, the heart of the tree looks poorly, and is light in color.
Insects are also on the rise. Spring time is a plant bugs favorite time of year. Warmer temps and new plant growth make for some good eating if you are an insect. We are still utilizing our horticultural oils but we will keep our eye on the weather as temperatures begin to climb.
As always, thanks for the business!
